Truck sales up another 10% in February

Sales of medium- and heavy-duty climbed 10% in February.

Retail sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in February began to climb out January’s hole with all weight classes except Class 7 showing improvement from the month before, according to figures compiled by Wards Intelligence.

Dealers sold 56,363 trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings above 10,000 pounds last month (+10% over January). By weight, the totals were 22,133 in Class 3 (+9%); 1,305 in Class 4 (+10%), 6,008 in Class 5 (+21%); 5,919 in Class 6 (+5%); 4,411 Class 7 (-4%); and 16,687 in Class 8 (+15%).

Compared to sales in February 2017, the totals were up 9%, paced by a 49% gain in Class 8.

For the first two months of the year, medium- and heavy-duty truck sales were up 8% compared with 2017, again lead by Class 8’s 41% improvement from a year a ago.
