With large fleet commitments having a big impact, new order volumes of 32,143 trailers in February netted to 29,947 units after cancellations—a 68% increase over February 2013, according to the State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers published by ACT Research Co. (ACT).
“Net orders were up 17% sequentially,” said Frank Maly, Director – CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT.
Concerning backlogs, Maly noted that the industry order board is now at the highest level since August, 2006.
“While dry vans were the driving force in the 11% m/m total industry gain, strength was widespread. Seven of ten trailer categories were up month-over-month,” he added.
February production surged compared to a weather-impacted January.
