Optronics International, a manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty LED vehicle lighting, recently introduced the ILL38CMB Corner-Mount Interior LED Lamp, which it expects to deliver to the market in early 2019.
The modular, low-profile lamp can be installed in virtually any trailer as original equipment or as an aftermarket upgrade, the company said.
“The ILL38CMB Corner-Mount Interior LED Lamp is a smart design that takes interior lighting out of harm’s way,” said Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optronics. “This lamp combines practicality with safety and automation to create a unique new lighting solution.”
One challenge with interior vehicle lighting is evenly illuminating the largest area possible, and to achieve this, a central lamp location often is adopted. But placing even a low-profile lamp on the ceiling of a vehicle’s cargo or work area can make it vulnerable to being struck by cargo, dock equipment and forklifts.
Optronics’ new corner-mount lamp moves critical interior lighting away from the high-traffic central core of the vehicle, where they’re more vulnerable, and reorients them in the corners of a vehicle’s ceiling, keeping the lights away from potential threats, while providing opposing beam directions that reduce shadows and dark areas.
The ILL38CMB features a modular design that enables multiple LED lamps to be spaced along the ceiling of a vehicle or configured as two continuous bars of light on ceiling corners throughout the length of a vehicle, Optronics said. The lamps have a sturdy corner-mount design that attaches to the ceiling and wall.
The lamp also comes with a passive infrared (PIR) sensor that provides flexibility for the user. The PIR can be programmed to trigger either individual light segments or a vehicle-wide interior lighting array.
“Turning lamps on and off not only takes time, but if left on and unattended, can put needless wear and tear on batteries, alternators and electrical systems,” Johnson said. “With the ILL38CMB Corner-Mount Interior LED Lamp, it’s on when you need it and off when you don’t.”
The new multi-volt lamp is compatible with both 12- and 24-volt electrical systems. The lamp operates in refrigerated and non-climate-controlled environments and boasts an operational range of between -4 and 140 degrees F.
Lenses and housings are made of sonically welded polycarbonate material, and the base is made of aluminum. The lamps employ a solid-state, surface-mount device (SMD) design that protects their electronics against moisture, shock and vibration.
The LED lamps come with a no-hassle, one-diode lifetime warranty protection that will replace the lamp if even one diode fails.
“Light strikes are a big problem for some shippers and are associated with certain types of cargo,” Johnson said. “Our new Corner-Mount Interior Lamp is an intelligent solution that will reduce damage in dry vans and reefers alike.”
