Miller advances work truck power systems

March 6, 2025
New all-in-one HDI Air Pak units combine a rotary-screw compressor, engine-driven welder, battery charger, and auxiliary power supply in one lightweight package.

INDIANAPOLIS—Miller Electric unveiled its first hydraulically driven all-in-one HDI Air Pak units during NTEA’s Work Truck Week.

The all-new 265 and 325 systems combine a rotary-screw compressor, engine-driven welder, battery charger, and auxiliary power supply, eliminating the need for standalone systems, saving up to 400 lbs., and reducing the equipment footprint by 54% compared to using an engine-driven welder and separate compressor, Miller said. “This is an innovation that will redefine efficiency and power in the work truck industry,” Brian Dieck, Miller vice president and general manager for Miller’s power systems division, said during an exhibit-hall news conference.

“The HDI Air Pak series is more than just a power solution—it’s a gamechanger for fleet efficiency, jobsite performance, and technician safety.”

HDI Air Paks are available to order now. Miller expects to begin shipping units May 12, Dieck said.

Industry-leading features of Miller’s fully integrated Air Park units include:

  • Onboard compressed air: The HDI Air Pak rotary-screw compressor produces 40 or 60 cfm of air at 100% duty cycle.
  • Battery charge/crank assist: Produces up to 150 amps of DC current to quickly charge 12- and 24-volt batteries. Operators can crank assist weak batteries with up to 300 amps of power.
  • Auxiliary power: A 7,000-watt generator that can handle jobsite electrical needs to power tools, lights and more.
  • Integrated multi-process welding: Technicians are prepared for any welding job they encounter in the field with 265 or 325 amps of output at 100% duty cycle and industry-leading weld quality, including:
    • DC stick (SMAW)
    • MIG (GMAW)
    • Aluminum MIG (GMAW)
    • Flux-cored (FCAW)
    • DC TIG (GTAW)
    • Air carbon arc (CAC-A)

Additionally, Auto-Set technology offers preset weld settings, making weld parameter setup fast, easy and accurate for operators of all skill levels.

  • Modular remote panels: Convenient remote panels with outputs for battery charge, auxiliary power and welding can be installed to reduce risk of slips, trips or falls and help you get the job done faster.
  • Simple setup: A single, easy-to-use digital user interface for air compressor, battery charge/crank assist and weld parameter settings saves time and helps guarantee accuracy.
  • Simplified maintenance: Toolless panels allow for quick and easy access to routine service and maintenance points.
  • Data visibility: Preventative maintenance alerts help you plan necessary service time, and CAN bus connectivity provides fleet data management insights.
  • Quieter jobsite operations: Reduced sound levels help improve work environments and minimize noise fatigue.

“Quieter operation and lower noise levels improve jobsite conditions and reduce operator fatigue,” Dieck said. “So we’ve already had our customers tell us that their technicians finally feel comfortable working alongside this unit all day long—something they would have completely avoided with previous solutions.”
