Medium and heavy truck sales were down 7% in September over the same period a year ago and up 1% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 59,037 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from September 2015 (63,143) and up from August 2016 (58,609).
Compared with September 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 29% (14,968, compared to 20,972). Class 7 sales were 5,721, up 7% from 5,347.
For the year, truck dealers have sold 516,062 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 4% from 539,092 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 149,473, a 21% decrease from the same period last year (189,541). Class 7 sales have been up 5% (45,905, compared to 43,798).
Total sales of all classes have been up 7%, from 7,565,860 to 8,091,044.
Every class has been up, except for Class 8 and Class 4. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (18%).
