Medium and heavy truck sales were down 5% in December over the same period a year ago and down 2% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 54,907 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from November 2015 (57,687) and October 2016 (55,756).
Compared with November 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 27% (13,943, compared to 19,231). Class 7 sales were 4,150, down 10% from 4,617.
For the year, truck dealers have sold 625,654 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 5% from 660,599 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 177,035, a 22% decrease from the same period last year (228,024). Class 7 sales have been up 3% (55,107, compared to 53,697).
Total sales of all classes have been up 7%, from 9,269,631 to 9,876,285.
Every class has been up, except for Class 8 and Class 4. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (11%).
