Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Down 0.4% in April

Medium and heavy truck sales were down 0.4% in April over the same period a year ago and down 9% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 59,511 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from April 2015 (59,796) and March 2016 (65,740).

Compared with April 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 19% (16,633, compared to 20,509). Class 7 sales were 5,078, up 27% from 4,008.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 226,049 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 3% from 219,021 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 68,492, a 10% decrease from the same period last year (76,318). Class 7 sales have been up 11% (18,739, compared to 16,901).

Total sales of all classes have been up 10%, from 3,088,709 to 3,394,794.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (23%).
