Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 6% in March

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 6% in March over the same period a year ago and up 24% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 65,740 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from March 2015 (61,887) and February 2016 (52,834).

Compared with March 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 3% (20,034, compared to 20,625). Class 7 sales were 5,126, up 7% from 4,798.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 166,538 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 5% from 159,225 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 51,859, a 7% decrease from the same period last year (55,809). Class 7 sales have been up 6% (13,661, compared to 12,893).

Total sales of all classes have been up 10%, from 2,252,440 to 2,472,743.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 5 (27%).
