Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 22% in September

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 22% in September over the same period a year ago and down 6% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 57,586 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from September 2013 (47,232) and down from August 2014 (61,021).

Compared with September 2013, Class 8 trucks were up 25% (20,078, compared to 16,125). Class 7 sales were 5,080, up 40% from 3,638.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 485,608 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 10% from 439,767 in 2013. Class 8 sales have been 158,288, a 19% increase from the same period last year (132,593). Class 7 sales have been up 16% (40,379, compared to 34,693).

Total sales of all classes have been up 10%, from 6,167,267 to 6,787,657.

Every class has been up. The biggest increase has been in Class 4 (21%).
