Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 17% in December, 11% for 2014

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 17% in December over the same period a year ago and up 11% for 2014.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 17% in December over the same period a year ago and up 11% for 2014, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 72,199 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from December 2013 (61,852). For the year, sales were 670,589, up from 605,508 in 2013.

Compared with December 2013, Class 8 trucks were up 19% (23,379, compared to 19,695). Class 7 sales were 5,297, up 24% from the 4,272.

For the year, Class 8 sales were 220,405, a 19% increase from last year (184,784). Class 7 sales were up 14% (54,178, compared to 47,524).

Total sales of all classes were up 10%, from 8,298,102 to 9,154,354.

Every class was up. After Class 8 and Class 7, the biggest increase was in Class 4 (12%, from 11,909 to 13,374) and Class 5 (12%, from 60,045 to 67,085).
