Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 15% in October

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 15% in October over the same period a year ago and up 16% from the previous month.

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 15% in October over the same period a year ago and up 16% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 54,936 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from October 2012 (47,683) and from September 2013 (47,232).

Compared with October 2012, Class 8 trucks were up 16% (17,985, compared to 15,560). Class 7 sales were 5,030, up 29% from the 3,901.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 494,703 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 6% from 467,150 in 2012. Class 8 sales have been 150,578, a 7% decrease from the same period last year (162,215). Class 7 sales have been up 1% (39,723, compared to 39,432).

Total sales of all classes have been up 11%, from 6,177,293 to 6,837,940.

Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (18%).
