Sales of Class 3-8 trucks rose 8% in August when compared with July, according to figures compiled by WardsAuto.
The increase, however, was not enough to match the 65,925 Class 3-8 trucks that dealers sold during August 2015. Sales were off 8% from last year’s exceptionally high levels.
Class 8 sales were down 26% from a year ago, offsetting a 10% increase in Class 6 sales and an 8% gain for Class 7.
For the first eight months of 2016, dealers sold 457,025 Class 3-8 trucks, down 4% from a year ago. Class 8 trucks were the only segment that was down year-to-date. Classes 3 and 4 were virtually unchanged with gains of 2% and 1%, respectively. Class 5 trucks were up 10%, and Class 6 vehicles were up 18% through the first eight months of 2016. Class 7 trucks were up 5%.
