Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 1% in January

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 1% in January over the same period a year ago and down 33% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 47,964 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from January 2015 (47,680) and down from December 2015 (71,482).

Compared with January 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 8% (15,949, compared to 17,373). Class 7 sales were 4,334, down 1% from 4,377.

Total sales of all classes were up 6%, from 662,183 to 700,764.

The biggest increase was 26% in both Class 4 (791, from 629) and Class 5 (5,457, from 4,344).
