Workhorse Custom Chassis, an affiliate of Navistar International Corporation (NYSE: NAV), showcased a number of innovative features and step van offerings at the International Baking Industry Exhibition (IBIE).
Along with the display of a 2011 Workhorse W62 Chassis with a Utilimaster body upfitted for a baking application, Workhorse showcased a number of industry-advancing concepts for the walk-in van market, including an interior dash concept module that provides a more ergonomic, driver-friendly instrument panel.
Also on display was a more aerodynamic hood design concept, which body builders could integrate for better aerodynamics and improved fuel economy.
“Workhorse is committed to improving the efficiency of its products and services to help customers in the baking industry improve their bottom line,” said Dennis Huffmon, vice president and general manager, Workhorse. “Our W62 chassis with the Vortec gas engine is a leader in fuel economy and we are seeing a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy over the previous engine.”
The Workhorse W62 gas chassis features the improved 6.0-liter GM Vortec gasoline engine designed to achieve up to 20 percent better fuel economy than the previous 8.1-liter Vortec gasoline engine for Workhorse’s W62 models, rated at 17,000, 19,500 and 23,500 lbs. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating). The 6.0-liter V-8 gasoline engine uses variable valve timing and an Allison 5-speed 1000HS transmission, among other features, to achieve outstanding fuel economy.
The W62 gas chassis also features the Vari-Rate rear suspension, which accommodates provisions for a pull-out ramp option, allowing for easy loading/unloading. The W62 gas chassis also has a three-year, 50,000-mile chassis warranty and service can be performed at more than 300 service centers set up to service gas and diesel chassis.
Workhorse has also begun offering the all new 2010 6.4-liter MaxxForce 7 diesel powertrain for its 2010 W62 diesel platforms. Workhorse’s 2011 models will feature the MaxxForce 7 with MaxxForce Advanced EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) technology, which, along with the 6.0-liter GM Vortec gasoline engine, provide two hassle-free solutions to 2010 emissions compliance.
