Super Cool 18 prevents overheating

To eliminate overheating associated with 18 Series 350-amp water-cooled torches, Weldcraft introduces its Super Cool 18 TIG torch. The Super Cool 18 operates up to 400 amps and has a patented water-cooling chamber design to provide full-flow water cooling that prevents the torch from overheating. Addition of a stubby collet body adjacent to the water chamber enhances cooling capacity of the torch, while allowing for an optional gas lens to improve gas coverage.

The Super Cool 18's patented water chamber allows water to flow down, around, and up the entire length of the torch head. This maximizes cooling and eliminates collet and collet body overheating, softening, and twisting, especially when welding heavy aluminum alloy, AC applications. The torch's heavy-copper components improve performance by increasing cooling efficiency, maximizing current capacity, and reducing downtime and costs associated with consumable changeover and rework. With a gas-shielding nozzle that screws onto the water chamber sleeve, the Super Cool 18 remains cooler longer

Available with standard WP-18 long or short back caps, the Super Cool 18 uses standard gas lens alumina nozzles, hoses, power cables, and collets with special heavy-duty 1/8-, 5/32-, and 3/16-inch models. It accommodates tungsten ranging from .020 to 3/16 inches and offers a standard WP-18 sure-grip handle to increase operator comfort.

Knot wire cup brushes tackle serious jobs

Weiler Corp has a new line of knot wire cup brushes. Designed specifically for heavy-duty applications requiring maximum aggression, the knot wire cup brushes are suitable for applications such as weld cleaning and cleaning large metal surfaces, paint and rust removal, as well as deburring.

Providing durability, the knot wire cup brushes have a steel band designed to control flaring of the brush face. The steel band can easily be removed to expose more wire once the wire tips are worn down to the band, increasing the longevity of the brush.

These new knot wire cup brushes also feature the Hurricane Twist, which lets the brushes work smoothly and aggressively while helping decrease operator fatigue.

The banded knot wire cup brushes come in 2¾" diameter using either .014 or .020 steel wire or .020 stainless steel wire with a maximum rpm of 12,500. The cup brushes are also available in a 4" diameter, using a .023 wire size with a maximum rpm of 9,000.

Torch spacing automatic for MG Systems Titan II

The newly updated Programmable Auto-Torch spacing on MG Systems and Welding Inc's Titan II allows the machine's torches to be automatically spaced to equal or varying distances from each other by entering values into the machine's Global Control. Carriages will then be automatically spaced to a specific location along the Y-axis.

Alternately, a part program can contain the spacing commands so that torch spacing is established as an automatic sequence during part program execution. This feature enhances torch starting location and reduces operator error, as well as adding to operational efficiency.

Flux-cored wire lowers spatter, fume levels

To reduce spatter and lower fume levels on E71T-1 type applications, Hobart Brothers introduces its Tri-Mark TM-910 gas shielded flux-cored wire). The TM-910 all-position wire is designed for use with high argon shielding gas mixtures, such as 95% argon/5% CO2 (or 75% argon/25% CO2), while maintaining deeper penetration for general fabrication and shipyard welding applications.

The TM-910 is suited for a range of welding conditions on both large and small applications. Specifically, the wire maintains its mechanical properties through high heat input/slow cooling rate applications and low heat input/high cooling rate applications.

TM-910 wire is optimized for all-position welding and improved efficiency on a range of applications. When the wire is used with higher levels of argon, the amount of spatter is significantly reduced, as is the amount of time necessary for cleanup. Further, the TM-910 wire offers versatility to shops currently running solid and/or metal cored applications using argon/CO2 shielding gas. Operators can use the same shielding gas for the TM-910's flux-cored applications. This reduces costs by eliminating the need for additional gas delivery systems.

LORD addresses Scelzi's attachment needs

Scelzi Enterprises, a Northern California-based manufacturer and supplier of truck bodies and parts, creates custom truck bodies. To ensure quality, every step in manufacturing happens under its roof — starting with raw sheet metal and ending with finished truck bodies fitted and color-matched to host cabs and chassis. Each body is caulked by hand, inside and out, to prevent leaks, rust, and corrosion. After caulking has cured, the body is undersealed with an oil-based automotive undercoating.

The company was looking for a better means of attaching aluminum diamondplate lifts to the top of the service bodies instead of using more than 100 rivets.

Scelzi chose LORD Engineered Adhesives for its trials. Distributed by Industrial Solutions Co and developed by LORD, these adhesives provide exceptional performance and durable bonds to various metal assembly applications.

Structural adhesives evenly distribute stresses, act as a sealant, reduce noise and vibration, offer durability, help prevent corrosion, and have no effect on the visible surface. A well-designed adhesive joint has been proven to match or exceed the service life of welds and mechanical fasteners.

Scelzi's team recognized the benefit of these adhesives in terms of preventing liquid or water from entering the compartment. Engineered Adhesives also proved to be a time saver, decreasing about three hours from prep and painting.

With about 120 trucks produced each month, Scelzi has used adhesives on almost 3,000 applications to date and in four separate applications.
