American Roll-off offers high-dump hook lift

American Roll-off, manufacturer of Hook-All hook lifts, has introduced its first high-dump hook lift. The new 17,500-lb-capacity dual-pivot unit is designed for use on a 25,900-lb GVW non-CDL chassis and dumps like a true dump truck. Hook-All is a quick-change body system that allows the user to switch bodies and increase truck utilization and versatility.

Hook-all hook lifts take less than 30 seconds to switch bodies such as dump bodies, salt spreaders, or flatbeds. Hook lift bodies are also easy to load and unload since the user can offload the body and unload it from the ground.

The new Hook-All Model HA-175 uses dual-lift cylinders and operates at 2,800 psi, which makes it easy to match to an end user's hydraulic accessories.

Smoothwheel: light weight, looks great

Smoothwheel's new lightweight aluminum wheel is designed to please the weight-conscious fleet manager and the driver who takes pride in his rig's look.

The 51-lb wheel has no hand holes for a distinct appearance. Smoothwheel's 22.5" × 8.25" lightweight aluminum wheel is available for standard hub-mount applications in outside and inside polished finish. Both versions have only one hole for valve stem access. In dual application, the inside polished wheel can be mounted in the outer position with any hand-holed steel or aluminum wheel mounted on the inner position. This allows for upgrading a truck and trailer by replacing only 10 wheels.

Smoothwheels are manufactured by Accuride, which warrants these products to be free from defects in workmanship and materials — excluding finish — for a period of five years from date of manufacture. For more information, contact Smoothwheel, 6678 Supply Way, Boise ID 83716-5512.

Volvo puts the brakes on vehicle instability

Volvo Trucks North America Inc will offer the ABS-6 antilock brake system made by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC on the Volvo VN and Volvo VHD.Beginning in early 2005, Volvo will offer ABS-6 Advanced with ESP (Electronic Stability Program), to address a range of driving conditions. ABS-6 will be Volvo's standard antilock brake system in North America, while ABS-6 Advanced with ESP will be a customer-specified option.

ESP can apply the brakes selectively on individual wheel ends, depending on driving conditions, vehicle speed, and other inputs from onboard sensors. This assists the driver to reduce speed, keep the vehicle aligned, and reduce the tendency for the truck and trailer to slide or jackknife.

The Roll Stability Program (RSP) — an element of ESP — monitors inputs from sensors and applies all available brakes on a vehicle to reduce rollover potential while turning, a consideration for fleets operating high-center-of-gravity trucks.

The ABS-6 Advanced system overlays existing air brake system architecture and components with advanced sensors and electronic control units to achieve its advanced stability performance. This means technicians require minimal extra training to service the ABS-6. The system also has enhanced diagnostic and prognostic capabilities to assist technicians.

Volvo will offer the ABS-6 in three different configurations: with four wheel speed sensors and four brake modulators (known as 4S 4M), with six sensors and four modulators (6S 4M), and with six sensors and six modulators (6S 6M).

Grote Industries rounds out LED lamp line

Grote Industries introduces a full line of white SuperNova LED lamps that includes four dome lamps, single and dual system back-up lamps, two strobes, and a license lamp.

The four new dome lamps are: SuperNova LED surface-mount cab dome lamp (part #61621), SuperNova LED rectangular trailer dome lamp (part #61611), SuperNova LED 4"-diameter metal flange dome lamp (part #61141), and SuperNova LED 4" grommet-mount dome lamp (part #61581). These lamps will operate in temperatures as low as -40° F (-40°C). They're compatible with existing lighting systems and can be retrofitted in place of fluorescent or incandescent options.

The SuperNova LED single-system back-up lamp (part #62401) and dual-system back-up lamp (part #62391) not only outlast their incandescent counterparts, but they also use fewer LEDs than other models.

Grote offers a full line of LED strobe lamps, including two white LED strobes: the 4" round SuperNova LED strobe lamp (part #77351) and 60 Series SuperNova LED strobe lamp (part #77361). The LED strobes require no external power supply.

The patent-pending SuperNova LED license lamp (part #60381) is designed to allow water and dirt to pass behind and over the fixture without collecting and causing corrosion. Instead of lens optics, the light is directed by complex active reflectors inside the lamp. The lamp's low-profile design helps prevent damage from loading docks. Non-metal bumper sports ‘chrome’ finish

Hendrickson's new Aero Bright, a mirror-finish, non-metal bumper, delivers durability and high-impact resistance in a lightweight package. The company expects to have a full line of HAB bumpers available by 2004.

Aero Bright is a composition of formable, shiny, weatherable films and thick-sheet thermoforming technology.

Thermoforming starts with a flat rectangular sheet of plastic clamped to a frame and heated to a specific temperature. The sheet is then pulled tightly over a tool with a vacuum. After cooling, trimming completes the shaping.

To achieve strength and durability, special manufacturing techniques are used to retain the thickness of material when forming the HAB bumper. This technology may also be adapted to grilles, headlight bezels, and other components. Hendrickson holds exclusive rights to this weatherable film technology for the Class 5-8 commercial vehicle industry.

For complete details, phone Hendrickson at 800-356-6737.

Narrow-frame reel can handle dual-hose use

Hannay Reels' N600 series is suitable for applications requiring dual hose for separate materials such as gases and liquids or air and coolant. This narrow-frame, spring-rewind reel is designed to accommodate simultaneously equal lengths of two hoses that can be of different diameters.

The narrow frame and compact mounting base allow the N600 to fit into limited-space work environments. A non-sparking ratchet assembly locks the reel at the desired length of hose payout, and a pull on the hose unlocks the reel for the spring motor to retract it. A declutching arbor is included to prevent damage from reverse winding.

For additional information, contact Hannay, 553 State Route 143, Westerlo NY 12193-0159.
