Medium and heavy truck sales were up 31% in January over the same period a year ago, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 37,764 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from January 2011 (28,757).
Compared with January 2011, Class 8 trucks were up 53% (14,119, compared to 9,236). Class 7 sales were 3,568, up 14% from the 3,124 sold.
Class 5 sales were up 28% (3,328, from 2,608) and Class 6 sales were up 19% (3,004, from 2,524). The only class with a downturn was Class 4 (452, from 509, an 11% decline).
