HDNABI highlights regen technology

March 22, 2024

The centerpiece of the HDNABI display at TMC was the MA618 slider box equipped with the EMA24 Regen.

The system, which can be configured for low voltage to support liftgate batteries, or high voltage to support electric TRUs, is designed to be lighter than competing systems, coming in at 32 lbs. per tandem axle, as well more affordable, HDNABI CEO Yon Yu told Trailer/Body Builders. The units are aimed at customers who need to meet stricter emissions standards as in California, he noted.

And the company has more to come.

“This technology will not only be for the liftgate and reefer unit,” Yu said. “In bigger terms, we're trying to trailer-generate additional electric to supply to the EV tractors. If you want EV tractors and comparable range to diesel, you have to install 30 tons of batteries—so it’s not really going to happen. So in Phase 2, we’re going to be generating electricity to increase the range of EV tractors 20-30%.”
