Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT), an Oshkosh Corporation company (NYSE:OSK) celebrating its 50th anniversary, introduced the next generation of Dominator mechanics trucks at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011, which started Tuesday in Las Vegas.
IMT enhanced its Dominator I, II and IV bodies — and designed the new Dominator III body — to support the increased reach and capacity of new IMT telescopic cranes, and to ensure that its mechanics truck-crane units would be stable, per American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards.
“Our upgraded Dominator bodies provide the foundation for new telescopic cranes that offer greater capacity and one of the industry’s longest reaches,” said Steve Fairbanks, IMT president. “Increased strength and stability make our standard-setting mechanics trucks even more productive and versatile across a spectrum of applications.”
The new telescopic cranes — the 7500, 8600, 9500, 10000, 12000 and 14000 — have model numbers corresponding to their maximum capacity and feature a patent-pending Penta Boom design. They each offer up to 30 feet of reach and increased capacity over previous models.
A new stabilizer is mounted at the right front of the body and extends out and down, providing greater stability than its predecessor. Operators now have the ability to perform lifts in the approved load area at full capacity of the crane load chart.
“Manufacturers like IMT are required to design and manufacture products to very specific standards, including those established by the ASME,” said Tim Worman, product manager for commercial vehicles at IMT. “To satisfy ASME requirements, our upgraded Dominator truck-crane units had to be stable at 118 percent of rated load. Our customers can be confident that their IMT products have been rigorously tested.”
Additional enhancements to the Dominator mechanics truck bodies include:
- A patent-pending energy absorbing boom stow that protects the top of the body compartments from damage if too much pressure is exerted from stowing the crane
- High-intensity LED compartment lighting
- A multiplex electrical system with programmable logic for increased reliability
The new IMT Dominator bodies come with significant flexibility, enabling customers to specify which new crane best fits their application needs. The Dominator I model offers compatibility with the 7500 crane, while the Dominator II truck can support the 7500, 8600, 9500 or 10000. The Dominator III vehicle is designed to feature the 12000 crane, and the Dominator IV unit can fit the 12000 or 14000.
