ICS Distribution, based in Birmingham, England, recently expanded its fleet with 10 Profi Liner curtain-sided trailers from Krone to meet the demand generated by its new exhibition equipment transport business.
ICS, which specializes in garment processing, handles 30 million units a year from its 400,000-square-foot factory and warehousing facility, including garments, household goods, electrical items, Amazon online and automotive parts. Orders are processed between international manufacturers and UK retailers to achieve 48-hour delivery.
“We run an intensive 24-hour operation” said Sid Hill, ICS transport manager. “And the business continues to diversify into areas where the opportunities lie. In this regard, we saw a gap in the exhibition and grandstand equipment transport sector and soon needed to expand our fleet to accommodate the increase in business.”
ICS said it specified the new Krone Profi Liners because of their “excellent build quality, security and loading flexibility.”
“The trailers come with reinforced curtains and double-locking concealed-hinge steel rear doors, three pairs of moveable side-posts in six different mounting positions, 32 side planks, sliding roofs and Krone’s Multi Lock side raves with 2-tonne (2.2-ton) strapping points every 100 millimeters along each side rave,” Hill said.
“Put all that together and you get a trailer which loads easily, can carry virtually anything and is highly secure. Without doubt, (it’s) the best of the ‘Euroliner’ bunch.”
Riding on Krone axles with drum brakes and Krone Easy Rider tires, the Profi Liners are pulled in convoy, four to five at a time, by a fleet of high-spec Scanias, including occasionally by the company’s flagship, Topline T580 T-Cab, to destinations throughout Europe.
“Our business quite literally never stops moving,” Hill said. “So it’s good to know we always have the back-up of the UK sales team and should we ever need it, Krone’s European trailer support service.”
