O Canada: NTDA show will go on

July 22, 2021
“We are delighted the border is opening and that our members will be able to travel and participate in this incredible event," says association president Gwen Brown

Canada will open the border to fully vaccinated and COVID-tested Americans by Aug. 9, and the National Trailer Dealer Association’s convention in Whistler, B.C. is on, as scheduled—not that there was ever a doubt.

“Last year, the NTDA was forced to switch to a virtual convention format like so many other organizations. When we began planning the 31st Annual NTDA Convention in Whistler several years ago, we were not anticipating a combination of COVID-19 and a border closure to be an obstacle for attendees in 2021,” said Gwendolyn Brown, NTDA President, responding to the plan detailed by government representatives in Ottawa on Monday. “We are delighted the border is opening and that our members will be able to travel and participate in this incredible event.

“Whistler is truly a ‘bucket list’ location—from the gorgeous drive along the majestic Sea to Sky Highway to the laid-back mountain culture of Whistler itself—not to mention the incredible trailer industry-specific educational lineup and networking opportunities. These are going to be some of the most memorable experiences the NTDA has ever offered.”

The convention bloc at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler was nearly sold out before this week’s announcement, Brown told TBB.

NTDA continues to work venue representatives and local officials to smooth any cross-border travel issues for attendees and exhibitors, she noted. Brown also advises attendees and exhibitors to keep an eye on the convention website for the latest in travel procedures.
