Auto Truck Group held a grand opening October 9 for its new truck equipment facility in Kansas City, Missouri.
The 68,8000-sq-ft building is constructed on a 17-acre site near the plant where Ford Motor Company manufactures the new Transit van and the F 150 pickup. The shop enables Auto Truck technicians to work on more than 100 vehicles at a time.
In addition to its high-volume production area, the shop has a separate area capable of upfitting 12 medium and heavy trucks for railroad, utility, and other applications.
As an authorized Ford ship-through operation, Auto Truck will be able to equip the vehicles produced at the Kansas City plant and ship them nationally through the Ford freight system.
Ford began manufacturing the new Transit this summer and also is ramping up production on the new F 150. As Ford and Auto Truck ramp up their respective production, Auto Truck believes its facility will be able to process 20,000 vehicles per year.
With the opening of the new facility, Auto Truck has been able to consolidate two older Kansas City facilities and sell the buildings they previously occupied.
