Sen John Thune recently stopped by the Trail King Industries production facility in Mitchell SD as part of the Manufacturing Day celebration.

The Republican senator visited with employees, shaking hands and thanking them for their hard work, while taking time to learn about Trail King’s manufacturing processes.

“Thune’s team celebrated the impact that manufacturing has on the state of South Dakota and the entire Mitchell region,” the company said.

Ed Thompson, Trail King’s plant manager, gave a tour of the facility, pointing out areas of interest, including robotic welders, the welding training facility and newly remodeled paint booths. Thompson also shared the company’s history, starting in a garage in Mitchell and growing into a leading North American trailer manufacturer.

Thune viewed some of the largest trailers Trail King produces on the production line, as well as new trailers employees were putting the final touches on for customer delivery.

Trail King has been delivering trailers since 1974 and is proud to be a member of the local manufacturing workforce. The Mitchell plant currently employs around 300 people from Mitchell and surrounding communities.

The company’s trailers, designed, engineered and built for a variety of applications, including construction, agriculture, transportation, waste and recycling, and specialized hauling, range in load capacities from 12,000 pounds to 1 million pounds.
