With 250 Mercedes-Benz dealers in the United States, Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vans is growing, and so is its product lineup.
The new full-size Sprinter comes with a four-cylinder M274 gas engine featuring 258.1 pound-feet of torque at 2,500-3,500 rpm, or a six-cylinder OM642 diesel engine, with 324.5 lb-ft of torque at 1,600-2,600 rpm.
For the 2018 model year, the 2500 had a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,550 lbs, the 3500 had a 9,990-lb GVWR (in the US), and the 3500XD, which also is available as a cab chassis, boasted a GVWR of 11,030 lbs.
The new Sprinter lineup for 2019 includes two more models: the gas-powered 1500, with a GVWR of 8,550 lbs, and diesel-powered, dual rear wheel 4500 boasting a GVWR of 12,125 lbs. In addition, the 2500 is adding a gas option and 500 lbs of weight capability, for an increased GVWR of 9,050 lbs.
Sprinter features include USB-C ports, more storage options and trailer hitch preparation.
Among the new safety and assistance features are a reversing camera with the parking package, attention assist and active brake assist.
Mercedes says its 2019 MY Sprinter strategy is to improve driver and passenger comfort, and the usability of the cargo area and exterior through numerous advancements, including interior roof rack, rear doors that open to the side wall, right-side electric sliding door and LED headlights.
The company also is introducing Mercedes Pro Connect technology, creating a digital touchpoint that connects the Sprinter to fleet managers and drivers, increasing the efficiency and productivity for fleets of all sizes.
