Medium and heavy truck sales were down 14% in July over the same period a year ago and down 8% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 54,343 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, down from July 2015 (62,990) and June 2016 (58,840).
Compared with July 2015, Class 8 trucks were down 39% (14,085, compared to 23,228). Class 7 sales were 5,258, down 14% from 6,112.
For the year, truck dealers have sold 397,598 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, down 3% from 409,690 in 2015. Class 8 sales have been 118,243, a 19% decrease from the same period last year (146,416). Class 7 sales have been up 4% (33,682, compared to 32,327).
Total sales of all classes have been up 8%, from 5,752,942 to 6,223,765.
Every class has been up, except for Class 8. The biggest increase has been in Class 6 (19%).
