Medium and Heavy Truck Sales Up 10% in September

Medium and heavy truck sales were up 10% in September over the same period a year ago and down 4% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.

Dealers sold 63,143 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from September 2014 (57,583) and down from August 2015 (65,925).

Compared with September 2014, Class 8 trucks were up 4% (20,972, compared to 20,078). Class 7 sales were 5,347, up 5% from 5,080.

For the year, truck dealers have sold 539,092 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 11% from 485,608 in 2014. Class 8 sales have been 189,541, a 20% increase from the same period last year (158,288). Class 7 sales have been up 8% (43,798, compared to 40,379).

Total sales of all classes have been up 11%, from 6,787,657 to 7,565,860.

Every class has been up, with the biggest increase other than Class 8 coming in Class 1 (14%).
