Medium and heavy truck sales were up 7% in July over the same period a year ago and down 4% from the previous month, according to figures compiled by Wards Communications.
Dealers sold 62,990 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds during the month, up from July 2014 (58,898) but down from June 2015 (65,497).
Compared with July 2014, Class 8 trucks were up 24% (23,228, compared to 18,793). Class 7 sales were 6,112, down 3% from 6,320.
For the year, truck dealers have sold 409,690 trucks with GVW ratings above 10,000 pounds, up 12% from 367,001 in 2014. Class 8 sales have been 146,146, a 23% increase from the same period last year (118,583). Class 7 sales have been up 7% (32,327, compared to 30,195).
Total sales of all classes have been up 10%, from 5,208,959 to 5,752,942.
Every class has been up, with the biggest increase—other than Class 8—in Class 1 (12%).
