Freightliner Trucks is adding a new model, the Business Class M2 106V vocational vehicle, to its product line. The 106V essentially completes the medium-duty niche within Freightliner's vocational lineup. The OEM said the new model complements its counterpart, the M2 112V.
"It pretty much completes our M2 product line at this point," Tanya Appuhn, Freightliner's medium-duty product manager said.
The OEM touts the M2 106V as versatile, agile, efficient and reliable.
Both the 106V and 112V models are built for specialized applications that require heavy-duty front-end stability and power. Ideal uses for the models include snow plowing, crane operations, construction, agriculture, fire and emergency, refuse, utility, and government services, noted the OEM.
"As we see Freightliner Truck's business increase in local and regional distribution and service applications, we expect the introduction of this vehicle to allow us an even greater penetration of the vocational market," said Mark Lampert, Freightliner Trucks senior vp- sales and marketing.
The 106V incorporates all of the key features as the 112V in a smaller, versatile package, the OEM said.
It has a front engine power take-off provision for snow plows, refuse packers, cranes and utility equipment. The front frame extensions offer up to 3.7-million in./lbs. of RBM to provide a solid mounting point. These integral frame extensions are offered in 6-, 12-, and 24-in. increments.
The 106V comes standard with a 6.4-liter Mercedes-Benz MBE 906 engine that offers 260-hp, 500 to 700 lbs./ft. of torque, and excellent fuel economy, Freightliner said. The 7.2-liter MBE 926, with up to 330 hp and 800 to 1,000 lbs./ft. along with the Caterpillar C7 and C9 are available as options.
A variety of transmission options are available, including the Eaton Fuller manual, Allison automatic and Mercedes-Benz Automated Gear Shift.
The 106V boasts the Freightliner trucks multiplex wiring system available in other Business Class M2 trucks. The wiring system is designed for ease of service and customization.
The truck is available with front suspension ratings up to 20,000 lbs. and single or dual steering gears. Its front axle selection is rated from 10,000 lbs. to 20,000 lbs., with rear axles ranging from 21,000 lbs. to 46,000 lbs.
