Kirkland, WA-based Kenworth Truck Co. is donating a new 2006 model T-800 dump truck to the City of New Orleans to support humanitarian efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Katrina, and Peterbilt Motor Co.'s manufacturing facility in Denton, TX, is donating a new Model 378 equipped with a dump body.
The Kenworth truck is going to be delivered to the local New Orleans dealer, Kenworth of South Louisiana, which is located in nearby Harahan, LA.
"I guarantee that the city officials here in New Orleans very much welcome Kenworth's donation and look forward to putting this special truck into action as soon as possible," said Scott Oliphant, the dealership's general manager.
Peterbilt is also donating 100 cases of Ozark bottled water, 2,400 bottles in total, to be delivered to New Orleans in the truck, along with individual donations from employees to relief agencies such as non-perishable food, toiletries and other essentials.
"In addition to the contribution made to the Red Cross by our parent company Paccar [totaling $1 million], the Denton plant and its employees wanted to help in the relief efforts by giving the City of New Orleans a work-ready truck that they produced," said Dan Sobic, Peterbilt's general manager.
