NASHVILLE, TN -- General Motors is planning to revamp its Silverado and Sierra pickups for the '07 model year, with production to start in this year's fourth quarter.

"Our '07 model redesign will give the Silverado and Sierra more refinements, more power, and more safety features," Ed Peper, gm of the OEM's Chevrolet division said here during a ride and drive event here to show off some of GM's new models. "But we're deliberately keeping a tight lid on the details for now."

Peper added that the first '07 Silverado and Sierra pickups to roll off the production line at the end of the year will be crew cab models, followed by extended cabs and then the standard pickup layout. He also said the current '06 versions of those pickups will be renamed the Silverado Classic and Sierra Classic to distinguish them from the '07 versions.
