The size of the light-truck aftermarket has nearly doubled in the past 10 years, rising from $38.8 billion in 1993 to $74.1 billion in 2002, according to The US Light-Truck Aftermarket: The Impact of Growing Pickup, SUV, and Minivan Sales, released by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).
According to the study, sales in the light-truck aftermarket experienced a 7.4% rise from 2001 to 2002, growing from $69.0 billion to $74.1 billion. The size of the 2003 light-truck aftermarket is forecast as $79.9 billion, an estimated 7.8% increase over 2002.
Size of the light-truck aftermarket is estimated based on factors including business receipts, vehicle sales, automotive product prices, vehicle registrations, and component maintenance and repair replacement rates.
