The national average price for a gallon of diesel shot up three cents to $2.289 per gallon — 2.7 cents shy of the record high price the Energy Information Administration reported just two weeks ago.
The Gulf Coast saw the highest jump in fuel prices, up 5.1 cents to $2.231. The Midwest is now the cheapest region in which to fill up, at $2.230. However, not all regions posted an increase. California — the most expensive region for diesel—posted the largest rollback, at 1.2 cents to $2.57.
