The board of directors of the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA) and Equipment Manufacturers Institute (EMI) each have voted to approve a memorandum of understanding that would consolidate the two groups into one association. As a result, EMI and CIMA are now working on an implementation plan outlining in detail the organizational and administrative structure of the consolidated association.
This consolidation proposal likely will go to members of the two groups for a vote sometime in summer 2001. If approved, the new consolidated association will legally begin operation Jan 1, 2002. The aim is to provide expanded and improved services to both memberships, as well as provide one industry voice to address issues that affect business operations of the members, particularly in the governmental area, more effectively.
