The national average price for a gallon of diesel rolled back 2.7 cents last week to average $2.262, according to the Energy Information Administration. This almost wiped out the 3-cent price hike of the week before.
All regions averaged a decrease, but the largest decline was in the Midwest as prices fell 3.6 cents to $2.194. The relatively steep retail drop made the Midwest the cheapest region in which to buy diesel. Prices held the steadiest in the New England region on a 0.3-cent dip to $2.41.
California retains the crown for the most expensive region in which to purchase diesel, where it retailed for $2.561.
