Ford has released installation guidelines for modifiers who choose to install grille guard/winches on Super Duty F-Series trucks.
Ford's Modified Vehicle Engineering Department recently conducted a 30-mph flat frontal barrier impact test to determine how the airbags deploy with a generic front-mounted grille guard/winch installed on a Super Duty F-350 4×2 model. When the vehicle hit the barrier, both front airbags deployed per design and were judged to meet FMVSS/CMVSS 208 & 301 requirements. Specs: grille guard (47"×27", 40 lb), winch (7"×7"×18").
The grille guard/winch uses a three-bolt frame horn mounting plate technique that includes the two original bumper mount bolts. This front frame mounting is recommended for Ford Super Duty vehicles and uses the existing OEM frame horn mounting holes and similar fasteners.
