The used truck market took a hit in September, with Class 8 unit sales declining 17% month-over-month—all but wiping out the gains that had been made in the used truck market the prior three months, according to State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.
“Class 8 unit sales remained well below pace for other time period comparisons,” said Steve Tam, Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT. “Pricing took its first negative year-over-year hit in 2½ years in September. However, the retail market saw a decline of only 1%. That flat performance gives hope that September’s results are not the beginning of a trend.”
