Webb Wheel OEM unit opens new plant

May 1, 2005 12:00 PM

The OEM Business Unit of Webb Wheel Products Inc has opened its new manufacturing facility and headquarters in Tell City IN. This plant will manufacture and assemble high-volume tractor and trailer hubs and drums for OE customers.

Construction of the 100,000-square-foot site began in April 2004 and was completed by the end of the year. Webb's investment of $24 million in this facility is part of the company's overall strategy to focus on specific customer segments.

Tell City offered the company a location close to both Webb's customer base and to Waupaca foundry, the firm's casting source. Many of Webb's OE customers will experience shortened freight time for product shipped from this location.

The Tell City facility has been equipped with the latest machining technology to hold consistent machining tolerances and produce quality parts. Also installed at this facility is a system to powdercoat hubs to protect them from corrosion. Drums manufactured at Tell City will be precisely machine-balanced. Machined ABS tone rings on the hubs are tested completely to ensure that each part meets engineered specifications.
