ArvinMeritor CVA achieves milestones

Oct 1, 2006 12:00 PM

ArvinMeritor Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket (CVA) business has celebrated key milestones with the remanufacture of its 10 millionth brake shoe and 50,000th axle differential carrier at its 275,000-square-foot Plainfield IN facility. The facility has remanufactured brake shoes since 2000 and differential carriers since 1999.

According to site manager Ernie Smith, the celebration includes a facility tour, presentation of a commemorative brake shoe and differential carrier, and an employee celebration luncheon. The facility opened in 1999 and employs 220 people.

To better understand the milestone volumes, 10 million brakes shoes are equivalent to about 500,000 tractor-trailer vehicles with about 20 shoes on each. Ten million shoes would stretch (end-to-end) 2,400 miles from Indianapolis to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
