SmartWay Says Trailer Skirt Meets CARB Rules

May 25, 2010 12:01 PM

The Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program says fleets installing Silver Eagle Manufacturing’s new Aero Saber trailer skirt will satisfy stringent California Air Resources Board (CARB) legislation requiring 53-foot trailers operating in the state to have aerodynamic devices installed on trailers that yield 5% or greater verified fuel savings.  According to the manufacturer, its skirt can deliver up to a 5.7% improvement in fuel efficiency for a tractor trailer combination.

All trailers operating in California are required to meet the CARB standard by the end of 2012.

“Silver Eagle Aero Saber skirts are a smart solution for truck owners who want to save on fuel costs,” said Matt Goldfain, marketing director for Silver Eagle Manufacturing. “The Aero Saber offers 5.7% fuel savings, equating to at least $2,700 a year in fuel savings and a quick return on investment. Over the life of a trailer, the owner could see as much as $40,500 savings on fuel costs by using the Aero Saber.”

Made of 90% recycled aluminum and rubber, the new trailer skirt offers 18 ins. of ground clearance to minimize maintenance costs and is 100% recyclable at the end of its usable life, according to Silver Eagle. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
