Manufacturing Technology Orders Up 5.6% Year-to-Date

Nov 19, 2012 11:00 AM

September  U.S. manufacturing technology orders totaled $667.47 million and the  year-to-date is $4,282.11 million, up 5.6% compared with 2011, according to the  United States Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) Report.

In the 17  years that this data has been collected, there is only one other month that  broke $600 million. It is possible that the industry could average $450 million  a month for all of 2012 — the largest year ever for this program.

Manufacturing  technology orders are truly an indication of the vitality of America’s  industrial base.  Changes in orders are a confirmation of recovery, often  establishing an upturn or downturn long before the traditional indicators  identify a trend.
