Commercial truck sales up 18%

Retail sales of Class 3-8 trucks remained 18% ahead of last year’s pace as truck dealers entered the last three months of 2012.

According to figures compiled by Wards Information Products, truck dealers sold 419,467 Class 3-8 trucks during the first three quarters of 2012, up from 356,333 sold during the corresponding period of 2011.

Sales, however, were softening towards the end of the third quarter.  Dealers sold 45,385 Class 3-8 trucks for the month, down 5% from August and off 2% when compared with September 2011.

Class 8 trucks led the way with a 26% increase.
