Carrier Transicold Units Available With 2010 Engines

Oct 13, 2009 2:51 PM

Carrier Transicold is now offering most of its refrigeration units with 2010 model year engines, giving owners an additional year of life on the units under California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations, the company said.

According to CARB, most transport refrigeration units (TRU) operating inside California have a seven-year engine clock that starts on either the year of manufacturer of the TRU or the emissions model year of the TRU engine. Because of this, Carrier said, units purchased with 2009 model year engines must be replaced or upgraded no later than Dec. 31, 2016. The 2010 model year units, though, if a customer takes delivery in 2009, will be valid until Dec. 31, 2017.

“In the past, the engine emissions model year and the TRU manufacture year were closely tied together,” said Dave Kiefer, director of marketing and product management. “Carrier’s early implementation of 2010 engines means customers do not have to wait until 2010 to get that extra year of service out of their TRUs.”
