High-output alternator for dual-temp reefers

A high-output alternator for trucks equipped with dual-temp refrigeration units is now available from Robert Bosch Corp. Model AL9120N, which produces 120 amps, "will easily accommodate the demands of 24/7 operations, plus provide additional power to handle automatic lift gates and other accessories," says Fred Padgett, senior product technical support manager, starters and alternators.
Although the replacement unit "appears identical" to factory-installed alternators, he points out, it has almost twice the capacity and also produces higher output at lower engine speeds.
"Cut in speed for the new alternators is 1250 rpm," Padgett adds. "It also has heavy-duty, high tolerance bearings, a sealed brush box, Zener diode rectifier plates and a single mounting foot," Padgett noted.
