Vacuum pump loads farm milk pick-up tank

Feb 1, 2004 12:00 PM

New Magyar milk pick-up tank is built as short as possible, as low as possible, and as maneuverable as possible to negotiate tight dairy farmyards. The 27,000-liter (7,130-gallon) tank trailer is 10 meters (33 feet) long, and the cylindrical tank is nested between the wheels. The two-axle trailer has hydraulic steering on the rear axle, sensed from the fifthwheel position.

The on-board pump is unusual. It is a 750 liter/minute (200 gpm) vacuum pump. After going through a degasser, the milk is metered, but the meter has no display. The output goes directly to a 3.65 mH computer. Also in the rear compartment is a global positioning system to register the total gallonage picked up at that particular farm location to prevent farmers from exceeding their quotas.

The single compartment tank has one baffle. The entire tank is of 306 stainless steel, including the chassis frame and suspension hangers. G Magyar/Cosmo BV, G Magyar SA, F-21004 Dijon-Cedex, France.
