Seagrave donates new fire truck to FDNY

Nov 1, 2003 12:00 PM

Seagrave Fire Apparatus handed over the keys of a new Commander II rescue pumper to firefighters of Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Squad 61 at a dedication ceremony at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall's Island in the Bronx recently.

The pumper was built and paid for by Seagrave and its employees after months of fund-raising with events including bake sales, potluck dinners, and supplier donations.

Leaders of FDNY, the firefighters of Squad 61, and Seagrave President Jim Hebe participated in the ceremony.

As he gave the keys to New York Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Hebe said, “The firefighters lost on 9/11 were more than faceless names. Many had walked our plant at Clintonville and visited our community. They were more than customers — they were our friends. The employees of Seagrave wanted to show their respect for and appreciation of the heroism exhibited that day. This truck is the result of their commitment to that goal.”
