Onyx awards contract to Heil Environmental

Onyx Waste Services Inc, one of the largest solid waste management organizations in North America, has awarded a three-year equipment contract to Heil Environmental Industries Ltd. The contract makes Heil the exclusive supplier to Onyx of rear loader, front loader, and recycler refuse collection vehicle bodies through May 2005. The new contract was signed upon the expiration of a previous 18-month agreement.
Jim Kennedy, director of purchasing and maintenance for Onyx, says the company bought approximately 150 refuse collection vehicle bodies from Heil under the previous contract and expects to purchase an average of 140 bodies per year from Heil over the next three years. Onyx buys Heil Half/Pack Classic and DuraPack Half/Pack front loaders, Formula 5000 rear loaders, and Recycle 2000 recyclers. Onyx has also purchased two Heil MultiPack refuse collection vehicles for its Groveland FL operation.
Onyx provides refuse services to more than 125,000 commercial/industrial firms and one million residences in 11 states, Canada, and the Bahamas. The company operates a fleet of about 1,800 refuse collection vehicles, including some 700 rear loaders, 400 roll-off trucks, 350 front loaders, and 350 recyclers/side loaders/automated collection vehicles.
