Electric delivery vehicle enters UK market

Jul 1, 2004 12:00 PM

LTI Vehicles has launched the first high-performance electric delivery vehicle to enter the United Kingdom's light commercial vehicle market.

The new vehicle, e-Mercury, can travel at speeds of up to 50 mph as opposed to the usual 20 mph, traveling up to 100 miles between refueling. It can also carry up to two tonnes, nearly double that of existing electric vehicles. The vehicle produces zero emissions and is almost silent, and because it is environmentally friendly, it is exempt from congestion charges and road tax.

LTI received financing of £634,611 (US $1,154,929) from the Energy Saving Trust's TransportEnergy new vehicle technology fund. Sheffield City Council will be trailing a number of the vehicles in the next year.
