American Cargo LLC, a manufacturer of dry-freight and parcel-delivery vehicles headquartered in Goshen, Indiana, has expanded its production and distribution capability with the acquisition of Babb Body Co brand.

Located in Social Circle, Georgia, Babb Body has provided van bodies to fleets, dealers and leasing companes through the Southeast since 1958. The acquisition includes all inventory and equipment as well as the brand name and engineering of Babb's dry-freight truck body.

According to Rick Horn, American Cargo's president, the purchase is part of the company's long-term strategy to achieve national distribution of its product line.

"American cargo is committed to serving the needs of commercial truck sales professionals through the U.S.," Horn said. "The acquisition of a quality brand like Babb and a production facility in the Southeast takes us one step closer to that goal."

Estimated production at the 47,000-sq-ft plant is 10 truck bodies a day. When fully operational, the plans is expected to employ in excess of 50 people.
