Supreme Corp building 75 vans for dot.com fleet

Safeway.com, the online division of the Pleasanton, California grocery chain, is expanding its home-delivery fleet with the addition of 75 customized refrigerated trucks bodies manufactured for the company by Supreme Corporation.

The custom bodies are built on a Ford E-350 chassis. Each van is divided into multiple compartments to meet the specific needs of Safeway.

“Having groceries delivered straight out of a refrigerated truck keeps the food fresh, while providing a convenient service to our customers.” said Terry Meilan, director of retail support for Safeway.com.

The Supreme trucks will be used for Safeway.com’s online market, which includes Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Portland. Safeway also owns several large grocery chains in the United States and Canada, including Von’s and Pavilions. Safeway.com initiated the refrigerated truck program in 2002 with 155 units.
