Oshkosh to rebuild war-damaged trucks

Oshkosh Truck Corp. has been contracted to rebuild damaged and worn out Oshkosh-trucks and trailers returning from military use Iraq.
The four-year, fixed-price contract– awarded by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM)– includes an initial order to rebuild and repair 211 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT), Heavy Equipment Transporters (HET), and Palletized Load System (PLS) trucks and trailers to “like new” condition for $31 million.
The Army expects to re-deploy those vehicles by July of next year, said Robert Bohn, Oshkosh’s chairman. “Our trucks have seen extremely heavy use throughout the conflict in Iraq, often logging more miles in a month than they normally would in a year,” he said
